The prime aim of KANIC is to preserve India’s Cultural heritage and to familiarise the rest of the world with Indian Cultural identity so as to understand the various streams of culture in the world and to imbibe the favourable aspects of them on the basis of India’s own native culture. To fulfill this, KANIC is conducting several programmes.

Kumaran Asan’s birthday celebrations fall on mid April. In connection with this, every year several programmes such as cultural meeting, procession, performing arts fest, competitions; Udayasthamaya Kavya pooja – a day long poetry presentation from sun rise to sunset by poets of Kerala – etc.

Every year there is Ezhuthiniruthu programme in connection with Vijayadashami. Normally it falls on the month of October every year. Ezhuthiniruthu is a Malayali custom performed to initiate a child into the world of letters. Each year KANIC conducts this programme, and famous personalities – writers, thinkers, artists, social activists – are invited to perform this ceremony

Monthly seminars, workshops, talks etc on various topics are also among the important activities conducted by KANIC.

The KANIC has been now recognized as a Research Centre of University of Kerala for Malayalam Language and Literature.
